Betto Ortiz-Osorno has nearly 30 years of experience in pre-clinical and clinical research and product development. His career started in the biotech industry, designing animal models for novel components, then worked as a contractor to the Division of AIDS at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health. Betto has experience in global pediatric clinical trials as a senior clinical trials specialist and team leader for the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group, as well as extensive experience managing drug, biologics and vaccine trials. Betto has worked with diverse stakeholders in complex programs in the US and throughout the world. He has expertise in training, quality assurance/compliance, human subject protection, protocol development and implementation, as well as project and portfolio management. Betto holds a master’s degree in animal science from the National University of Colombia and completed several years of training in veterinary medicine at the Antioquia State University in Medellin, Colombia. He has published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings in several areas of clinical research, including infectious-disease trials, implementation of clinical research, bioethics and human subjects protection. He has been a presenter at numerous scientific/clinical research conferences and seminars and has been recognized with honors and awards by a host of organizations. Betto is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.
